In a significant step towards educational enhancement and community development, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) successfully convened the inaugural meeting for the 2024 Tara Basa! Program on March 14th at the City of Malabon (CMU) Hall. The meeting presided over by DSWD-NCR representative Ms. Marilyn Guzman, saw the participation of key stakeholders from various institutions.
Among the distinguished attendees were Dr. Glen DV De Leon, CPA (CMU University President); Dr. Allie Agustin (CMU – University Secretary); Dr. J Rapsing (CMU-CTE Dean); Dr. Arnel Basilio (CMU-CAS Dean); DepEd Tara Basa! Focal Persons: PSDS Dr. Remedios Rey and EPS Dr. Ofelia Cruz; and Ms. Lorelie Santiago, Chief of CSWD-Malabon. Councilor Nadja Marie Vicencio, the City of Malabon City Council Committee on Education, and CMU Board of Regent, also graced the event.
The primary agenda of the meeting was the presentation and discussion of the Annual Accomplishment Report for the Tara Basa! initiative in 2023. According to the data shared, the collaboration between CMU, DepEd-Malabon, and other stakeholders yielded remarkable success in advancing the program’s objectives.
Councilor Vicencio commended the collective effort and expressed anticipation for another fruitful execution of the Tara Basa! Program is scheduled for July. She assured full support from the City of Malabon, under the leadership of Mayor Jeannie N. Sandoval. Dr. Glen DV De Leon echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of collaborative partnerships in achieving the program’s goals.
This year’s program will provide an extensive opportunity for CMU students to engage as tutors and is slated to run for twenty days in July. With a focus on inclusivity and educational empowerment, Tara Basa! continues to be a beacon of hope for marginalized communities.
